Why ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ?

I am from a small town where everybody new everything about everyone. I loved the community vibe from the small town, but I disliked the lack of opportunities. When I visited ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ, I saw the variety of opportunities that were available. I also felt at home with the small town feeling in the Honors Residence Community. ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ felt like home to me immediately, and I have never regretted my choice to come here.

How did you choose your major?

I started my freshman year as a Biomedical Engineering major hoping to change the world. I love math and science, but it wasn’t the major for me. During my first year I spent time volunteering for student organizations and found my passion. The summer after my freshman year, I realized that non profit work is what I was meant to do. That said I made the huge switch to Organizational Leadership.

Key Moment at ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ

I started my time at ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ with a disability studies minor. I have always been passionate about this topic and volunteered with my high schools Multiple Handicapped unit while I was in school. When I switched my major, this passion stuck with me. An amazing professor helped me deep dive into this as well. Meghan O’Leary taught my DST 375 class. Through this I did an honors extension where I took a deep dive into the topic and advocated for the program at ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ. This experience has stuck with me and has helped shaped me into a better student and advocate.

Other Notable Experience

Coming from a small town, I was very involved in my High School’s Marching Band, including being the Drum Major. When I came to ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ I was excited to continue my love for music with other passionate musicians. The one thing that blew my mind was the size of the band. I came from a band that only had 25 members to ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ’s Band with over 200! This helped open my eyes to the endless possibilities that are possible at ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ outside of your major.

Another ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ Moment

Becoming an RA at ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ was one of the greatest decisions of my life. I met some of my best friends, learned a lot about myself, overcame many struggles, and helped me continue to see my passion for helping others.

What are your career goals?

When I graduate from ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ, I want to get away from Ohio for a little bit. I want to make my impact on the world by helping student leaders. I want to work for a Career Tech Student Organization (CTSO). Some examples include FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, TSA, and DECA. I am hoping to work for the state or national level for one or multiple of these organizations.
