The functions of the Department Planning & Improvement Committee are to initiate and implement a continuous improvement and evaluation process that assesses the quality and effectiveness of departments and identifies and monitors strategies for improvement in the context of the discipline as well as ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ's mission, strategic plan and diversity statement; to develop and recommend to University Senate a policy specifying the purposes, criteria and standards, and the procedures of program review, the department planning and improvement process; to periodically re-examine that policy, and if necessary, recommend changes to University Senate; to coordinate the department planning and improvement processes according to the established guidelines and procedures; to report regularly to University Senate; and to respond to inquiries. 

Composition

Eight (8) tenured, tenure-track faculty or Teaching, Clinical Professors and Lecturers (TCPL) members,  at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of University Senate, along with student and ex officio members. Membership shall be for a term of three (3) years with the exception of student membership, which shall be one (1) year. If warranted by the number of programs under review, one or two additional ad hoc eligible faculty members to be nominated by the Executive Committee of University Senate in consultation with the Department Planning & Improvement Process Committee Chair to serve a one-year term.

The faculty membership of the Committee shall be allocated as follows:

Three (3) from the College of Arts and Science (one each from the areas of the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences).

One (1) from the College of Education, Health, and Society.
