A decade has gone by since I started the Opening Minds through Art (OMA) program. During this time the program has grown tremendously, thanks to Scripps Gerontology CenterÂ’s support and ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒÂ’s recognition of its value to the students.

The Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education is proud to present ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ senior Reeti Pal with the 2017 Ken and Joan Frankel Outstanding Premedical Student Award and ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ Sociology professor Dr. Jennifer Bulanda with the Mallory-Wilson Center Faculty/Staff Recognition Award. Reeti will be honored at a ceremony on May 12, while Dr. Bulanda received her award from ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ's seniors at the Graduating Prehealth Student Reception on April 20th

Why CanÂ’t Grandma Remember my Name, by Kent L. Karosen and Chana Stiefel, is a childrenÂ’s book explaining AlzheimerÂ’s disease using artwork created by children juxtaposed with art created by OMA artists. It demonstrates the creativity that is within all of us, regardless of age or cognitive status.
