News Widgets Glossary

Article Content Row Options

Widgets you can create while editing a news article in the Article Content section. These are part of the page and aren't created separately. They aren't reusable across multiple pages. Publish the pages to see changes to the content.

  • Article Hero with Image
    • Add a small or large image at the top of your article with an optional caption to describe the image.
  • Article Hero with Video
    • Add a YouTube video at the top of your article.
  • WYSIWYG
    • An open content field with formatting options.
    • Option to add a side image with a caption that displays to the left or right of the content. Use this feature instead of the leftImage or rightImage classes.
  • WYSIWYG with Sidebar
    • Add a sidebar to your article content. The sidebar appears to the right of the content.
  • Featured Media
    • Embed media within your story, this could be a YouTube video, a podcast from a streaming service, or a single image. The media can be made wide to fill most of the screen or narrow to be smaller.
  • Featured Quote
    • A quote from a person.
  • Accordion
    • A row of content with collapsible sections of content with headings.
  • Gallery Carousel
    • A carousel of images with captions, click the four blocks icon to expand the images full-screen.
  • Gallery Folder
    • Select the first image in a folder full of images, the rest of the images in that folder will automatically display in the page. Recommended image size:
  • Gallery Row
    • Create a row of 1-3 images of varying widths with captions. You can create multiple rows to build a gallery page or place them between sections of article content to break up a long story.

Include Widgets

These widgets will need to be created first in the _widgets folder, and then attached to a page. They can also be reused across multiple pages.

Include widgets gather the latest articles into a feed, so they need to be published frequently with a Publish Schedule. You do NOT need to publish the pages they are attached to. These widgets can be attached to any type of page.

  • Latest News and Events
    • The latest news articles, regardless of category, a space to embed a Localist calendar widget
  • News Cards
    • The latest news articles of the selected category or categories
  • NEW: News Feeds
    • Similar to News Cards, the News Feeds widget pulls in the latest news articles from the selected categories. It now has many more display options.
  • News Category
    • The latest news articles of the selected article type: experts
  • News Videos
    • The latest articles created of the video content type
  • ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ in the Media
    • The latest ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ in the Media articles, there is not much use for this widget beyond the News homepage
  • News Podcasts and Blogs
    • The latest articles of the podcast and blog content type
  • News Feeds
    • The latest news articles of the selected category or categories
  • NEW: Spotlights
    • The latest spotlights of the selected category

Other Widgets

All of the other widgets listed on the main glossary page can be added to news pages and articles in the Widget Row section towards the bottom while editing a page.
