Dr. Phyllis Cummins, Senior Research Scholar at Scripps Gerontology Center, has been elected to serve on the National Council for Workforce Education's Board of Directors. Cummins joins three other new members elected to the board and will serve a one-year term. In 2012, Dr. Cummins was awarded the James Jacobs Scholarship Award from NCWE for her dissertation research on older workers attaining credentials and degrees at community colleges.

The Colonial Services Long-Term Care Research award is presented to a gerontology graduate student for outstanding research or program development in long-term care. The award is funded by a contribution from Colonial Senior Services of Hamilton, Ohio to the Scripps Gerontology Center. The 2018 awardee is Nytasia Hicks.

¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒÂ’s Scripps Gerontology Center has been awarded a $1.23 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Scholars will use the money to research skill proficiencies and lifelong learning activities of middle-aged and older adults. The award recognizes individuals in Ohio's aging network whose research has improved services, advanced knowledge, or supported the expansion of research in the field of gerontology in Ohio or nationally.

The Mallory-Wilson Center for Healthcare Education is proud to present ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ senior Reeti Pal with the 2017 Ken and Joan Frankel Outstanding Premedical Student Award and ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ Sociology professor Dr. Jennifer Bulanda with the Mallory-Wilson Center Faculty/Staff Recognition Award. Reeti will be honored at a ceremony on May 12, while Dr. Bulanda received her award from ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ's seniors at the Graduating Prehealth Student Reception on April 20th

Kate de Medeiros, associate professor of sociology and gerontology and the Robert H. and Nancy J. Blayney Professor of Gerontology, has been named Educator of the Year by the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education (OAGE).
