This summer, 19 ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ undergraduates from a spectrum of majors spent an exhilarating ten weeks in Washington, DC for the universityÂ’s renowned Inside Washington Program -- one of the few such ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ programs that was able to proceed this year despite the ongoing pandemic.

Students in ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒ's Researching Midwestern History course meet via Zoom to discuss their final project.As a Hispanic kid growing up in Storm Lake, Iowa, Matthew Marroquín had no concept of race. “I just knew that if I go over to this friendÂ’s house, I say ‘helloÂ’ to their mother in this way, and if I go to a different friendÂ’s house, I had to learn ‘sabaideeborÂ’ for Laos, or ‘xin chàoÂ’ for Vietnamese.”

As a promising reflection of a resurging economy and reduced pandemic restrictions, the newest College of Arts and Science members of ¾Ã¾ÃË®ÃÛÌÒÂ’s worldwide alumni network were congratulated in a two-part, socially distant, in-person ceremony on May 15 in Yager Stadium.
